Merry Christmas!

Ran during a mini break during the work day. W/U included some new to me surge patterns. The workout was 4 sets of (4:00 fast + 2:00 recovery). The first 3 sets - 8.50, 8.60 and 8.70 mph - felt quite smooth and under control. Feeling a bit too much left in the tank, I started the 4th set from 8.80 mph and bumped up by 0.10 mph every minute. Still feeling enough reserves in the tank, stretched the W/D to the 60-minute mark. Good run.

As far as the caption/title goes …

It’s the anniversary of the 1913 Italian Hall Disaster that happened in Calumet. 73 folks - mostly striking mine workers and their families (and nearly 60 of them children) - were crushed to death in a stampede when someone falsely shouted 'fire' at a crowded Christmas Party.

Built in 1908 and demolished in 1984, the said Italian Hall, Societa Mutua Beneficenza Italiana, was a 2-story commercial and recreational building. That building and the memorial park in its place was/is not too far from the Swedetown Trail Club’s main trailhead/Great Bear Chase' Stadium.

Photo of the building from someone else's archives and that of the memorial park is from mine. A brief candle light service is set to take place at the memorial park at 7:30 pm to honor the memory of lost souls.
