South meadows to Avy Lake

Strava missed 2 miles & 25 minutes. Very eventful and humbling hike/run. Started off feeling fairly strong jogging to JBL. It was hot & humid, but bearable. Rain started coming down pretty hard as I went up Saddleback. Slabs on orebed were sketchy, legit waterfalls, as were all the slabs and rocky terrain all over Saddleback and Basin, so I took my time on this section. At this point I was soaked from head to toe. My original plan was to hit Haystack & possibly Marcy, but I was soaked  and also on my way down Basin, my eyes began swelling up. Next thing I know, my whole face was swollen, I could barely see, hives and itching all over my body…. I must have touched a poisonous plant then rubbed my face. I had no Benadryl in my first aid kit, so I decided to head back down to JBL, in hopes they had some there. I went as fast as I safely could, although I could not see very well. Thankfully, they had antihistamines at JBL to reduce my selling. And my throat never swelled up, so that’s a relief! I relaxed there for a bit to let the meds kick in. I’m just grateful it wasn’t a worse reaction & learned to now add Benadryl to my first aid kit!! Made it out back to the Garden at a decent time. Not my best “strava time”, but I’m grateful and humbled that I made it out safe!!
