Sending the first two hours in z4/z5 was strong but made sure that the course broke me: vulnerable. Strong and vulnerable.

Quite a day out there. Started out at 10pm the night before, drove up the jeep with no doors and no roof for “fun”. Highway was pretty rough actually with the wind (managed 67mph but every little bit really cranks the wind), a bit cold, and very cold (55) in the valley on 100. Warmed up a tad to 60 going up the hill (inversion!). Made it by 1230, almost went to the wrong resort but thought to stop on check while I had service on rt 100. Gate was locked so along with three other cars parked at the gate. Inflated and bed by 1am! Noisy with other cars coming in, they started unlocking and locking the gate around 4am. They left it open at 430 and I drove in, parked way on the side because I didn’t know where to go. At about 5 it was clear I wasn’t in the parking area which was half full (the cars filling up the lot next to me were a bit loud), then I drove into a spot. Lots of noise and some techno music but managed to sleep until 6ish.
Thermos and instant share coffee in the jeep was great.

Took off fast and slipped immediately (pancake on to my side, bounced back up) on the steep mud fest in the woods right away. Was maybe a minute ahead of Chris at the spear throw, and the only obstacle I missed for the day (string got caught, damn). The penalty was kind of brutal and I was a minute back on Chris. Made a pretty big effort to catch him on the big climb and we were together until I cramped at about 2 hours going downhill. Took a pretty nasty spill in that time (smashed my left toes on a rock for an unscheduled burpee). Lucky to have on road rash and avoid all the big rocks. Cramps came first on the Inner thigh. Mixed my salt packed LMNT into water right then.
The cramps got worse and worse and I got slower and slower. HR was under control with the very slow pace and I just had to delicately manage the downhills. Any running or speed down and the cramps were back. They came uphill too. Phew!
Was really good on taking water at every station, all 3 90g PF on schedule (1 per hour), and took my maple shot too. Honey packed from a dude and three bananas to round out the carbs, which was all I had after 3 hours. 

Was barely moving at the end, hiked backwards downhill as I could, phew.

Happy to hit all the obstacles and to be out there with such a great group of guys to honor Jarlath. My first (and only previous) beast was with him in 2015.

2XU shorts didn’t survive, and I had started picking up litter with a pickle juice I hoped was a drop (it was empty, thankfully, I hate the stuff). Going slow was a good chance to snag more and I made quite a haul! Winning call from Kate on the fried chicken sandwich. Can I get an athletic brewing sponsorship?
