A short hike to a stunning overlook.
The Stairway to Heaven hike is a short 2.3-mile out-and-back hike along the Appalachian Trail that leads to the Pinwheel's Vista viewpoint. From Pinwheel's Vista, you'll enjoy spectacular views of the valleys and rolling mountains of New Jersey.
While this hike is short, some will consider it challenging. The route ascends a steep series of rock slab steps set into the mountainside, gaining a stiff 800 vertical feet in just over a mile.
Since this is a part of the Appalachian Trail, you can expect to see thru-hikers and section hikers, but it's also an extremely popular day hike—especially in the fall when the leaves are peaking.
