A lovely stroll around a peaceful lake
Aldenham Reservoir is a large man-made lake located remarkably close to the hustle and bustle of London, and is adjacent to Aldenham Country Park. The reservoir was created in the 1950s by damming the River Colne and flooding the valley, and it serves as a source of drinking water for London.
The reservoir covers an area of over 60 hectares and is surrounded by a nature reserve, which is home to a variety of wildlife, including waterfowl, wading birds, and reptiles.
This easy stroll around the reservoir and country park is an enjoyable little trip and gives you a sample of nature in close proximity to the big smoke. Logistics are easy enough, with plenty of towns nearby and several of the biggest motorways in Britain passing close to the area. There is also ample parking and there are also a couple of nice little cafes to check out before or after your walk.
When you're done walking, there's also plenty of other attractions to explore. Some of the activities available in Aldenham Country Park include fishing, boating, cycling, walking, and picnicking. There is also a playground for children, as well as a farm where visitors can see and interact with farm animals. The park is also home to a nature reserve, which is home to a variety of plant and animal species.
So the next time you're passing through north-west London and need a bit of outside time - check out Aldenham Country Park. Written by Charlie Boscoe
