After going up the Maulerhubel lift a great option is to to return the way you came by following the line of the chairlift back down to the lift. The initial section is found by going right off the Maulerhubel piste so that you go under the Maulerhubel chairlift....

A relatively easy day with an optional extra 600m skin up a summit, easily missed in poor weather or if acclimatising slowly. Our day begins descending the ladders, then a gentle skin up to the Grunhornlucke, 3280m....

Make sure you have an alpine start for this day as your final 3 hours will be uphill on a S facing slope to the bivi hut. We left at 6 and that was only just early enough....

Follow the Fis (15b) piste past the reservoir and then take a right off the piste going along the top of a ridge line. From here you can either drop in down towards the Fis run off cornices that can be up to 10 feet high before a short few turns and back onto the Fis run....

After coming off the Murren-Birg cable car or off the Riggli chair head down to the left along blue piste Number 11 to the head of the valley. After the netted area you can turn off the piste to access about 250 metres of consistent steep turns that offers some of the best powder in the area after heavy snowfall....

At the end of the Schiltgrat ridge, the line of the old T bar presents a very challenging option due to its narrow width, almost requiring jump turns. When there has been heavy snow this widens and you can pick lines through the bushes....

Ski down the Engetal piste and instead of turning left to go to the Riggli chairlift or down towards the Muttleren chairlift, go straight on at the sign on the avalanche danger rope and proceed along a flattish bit through some large rocks....

Following the hairpins of the brutal Kanonenrohr black piste, this run is an opportunity for some great consistent steep off piste turns. Leaving the piste anywhere along the track after the last hairpin offers a steep and often untracked freeride option that is best when there is a lot of snow....

Instead of turning hard right onto the Winteregg blue piste or going straight onto the red piste, turn left and head off piste down the line of the Winteregg chairlift pylons....

We are using the Finsteraarhorn Hut as a base for 3 nights, allowing daypacks for the following 2 days. Today is the approach day with heavier sacks but is not unduly arduous....

From the hut you are going straight up on S facing slopes. It is common to do this initially with either crampons on your feet or maybe ski crampons if skinning....

From the Steingletscher Hotel climb steeply initially, following roughly the line of the summer path, to the N then E. The angle quickly eases as you gain height, then follow the main valley of the Obertal to the N....

This is one of the most enjoyable ski ascents in the Oberland, which in good conditions is possible on skins all the way. Descend from the hut, skiing down the easy glacier until you are right beneath the peak at about 2800m....

Again this day allows a short semi rest day if conditions are poor and you can simply go from one hut to the other. We are reversing the route of 2 days ago, over the Grunhornlucke, 3280m, then down to Konkordiaplatz....

The Gross Fiescherhorn is undeniably a major mountain, with its huge N wall, the Fiescherwand, dropping away impressively from the summit. The Hinter Fiescherhorn is of much less interest but an irresistible add-on peak, with the bonus of being able to skin to/ski from the summit rocks....

This is a straight up out and back trip from the Finsteraarhorn Hut. The glacial slopes approaching the high col, the Hugisattel at 4088m, are relatively steep but are wide, hence great for the ski down....

After getting off the Schiltgrat chairlift take your skis off and be prepared for a short (5-10 minute) hike. Climb further up the Schiltgrat ridge behind the top station (A sign saying danger of avalanches shows you where to go)....

After going down the Bietenhorn piste for approximately 300 metres head to the right side of the piste and go round where avalanche danger rope is placed and begin traversing along the steep slope....

Similar to the 'Line of the Chairlift' freeride run, this run requires a longer traverse to access a steep and exciting pitch down the line of the Winteregg chairlift. Upon exiting the Winteregg chairlift, go around the corner following the blue run and turn to the left off the piste almost immediately....

The "Grey Slope" doesn't look very difficult, but you don't want to get it wrong either. After getting off to the right on the top of the Oberjoch lift, you will see a wide slope....
