Crawleyside Classic
Cycling Route
Hard
71.36 km
1,148 m
The premier Durham route; the highlight of the ride comes just under 35km in when you turn right out of Stanhope and up Crawleyside bank. The climb is just shy of 3 miles at an average gradient of 6% however the toughest section is at the start where it reaches its max gradient of 20%. Reaching an altitude of 470m above sea level, the run back to Durham features a beautiful descent through Waskerly, which on a clear day gives an awesome view over County Durham. The only major test on the return leg is Ragpath bank, which has an exponential profile (i.e. it keeps getting steeper and steeper). Needless to say, a classic route that any DUCC rider should know like the back of their hand.
