A logical loop linking 3 contrasting trails
Slightly away from the better known Rossland biking areas, this is a fun little loop which is easily accessed from the highway. There's a large parking lot at the start of the trail and it comes back to the same spot so there are no logistical issues to solve.
The trail is actually a link of 3 smaller sections of trail, and each one has a character of its own. It's a relatively short trip and provides some fun riding without too much stress, so it's an ideal quick hit.
Larch Ridge is the first trail up and it's undulating with a few rocky sections, and leads you easily away from the road and up into some lovely, quiet forests.
When Larch Ridge gives way to Monticola you're at the high point of the ride and there's a great view down to Rossland. Once on Monticola itself the riding is fun, fast and flowy, with no major technical sections and plenty of smile-inducing singletrail. It passes through forests all the way but there are multiple clearings, most of which have a good view south down the valley.
C.O.G. is the final trail in the loop and it's all uphill along a forest trail which leads to an intersection with Cedar Trail. Turn right and follow this back to parking lot.
There are multiple other trails in the area and a helpful sign showing them all at the parking lot, so adding on an extra loop if you haven't had enough is easily done. Written by Charlie Boscoe
