One of the most varied hikes in the region, taking in bucolic countryside and wonderful city views

The Bath Skyline is a scenic walking route that offers stunning views of the city of Bath and the surrounding countryside. The route follows a 6-mile circular path that takes in a variety of landscapes, including woodlands, meadows, and open fields, as well as views across this famous Roman city.

Bath is known for its distinctive Georgian architecture, which includes elegant terraces, crescents, and squares built from honey-coloured Bath stone. The city's most iconic buildings include the Royal Crescent, the Circus, and Pulteney Bridge, but just strolling through the city's streets is enjoyable, regardless of whether you seek out any particular sights.

The Bath Skyline walk offers a unique perspective of Bath, allowing visitors to see the city's iconic landmarks from a distance. Highlights of the route include views of the Royal Crescent, Bath Abbey, and the city's historic centre. In addition to its impressive views, the Bath Skyline is also a great spot for wildlife spotting, with a variety of bird species, butterflies, and wildflowers to be found along the way. There are also several historic sites to explore, including Iron Age hillforts and old quarries.

The route is well-maintained and includes several rest areas and picnic spots. It is suitable for hikers of all levels of fitness and experience, although some sections of the trail can be steep and rocky. If you've got the legs to hike for 6 miles and don't mind a bit of up and down en route, you'll be absolutely fine on this walk which combines nature and culture perfectly.

NB. Parking is an issue for the hike, so just park as close as possible and then get onto the route! Written by Charlie Boscoe
