Gasselhöhe Abfahrt
Skitour-Route
Details
1,73 mi
1.230 ft
Steep and short with tricky entrance
Start bootpacking from the top station of Gasselhöhebahn 2 six person chairlift towards the backcountry. First follow the track from the snow cat and snowmobiles, but do not get too far to the right, always stay where you can still see the ski resort; that's the shortest way. Depending on the snow cover, it takes about half an hour of walking on the steep terrain. Sometimes there are ski touring tracks up. As soon as you reach the summit plateau enjoy the great view (from here you can also check out lines on Dachstein). Walk past the summit cross for about 50 metres and turn left. Carefully and slowly find the spot where the terrain is flat under the otherwise massive windlip. The descent is skier's left from the entrance, after the first turns in the rolling terrain you get a better understanding. Stop as soon as you see something and traverse to your left to navigate through the big pillow rocks, great for some jumps. To not end up in the bushes, keep a bit left, but don't cut the face. With this descent it's really important that there is only one person at a time in the face, ride it as early as possible, as the slope is facing east and it can get really dangerous over the course of the day because of the massive windlip always hanging above it. There is also the possibility to ride down from the to more towards the ski resort on the ridge or a bid lookers right from the track up. The exit towards the resort is to your left, as soon as the terrain allows head skier's left through the trees. (There are some nice bumps there.) You will then hit a mountain road which leads you back towards the resort. Written by FATMAP Official
