Corn Du, Pen y Fan and Cribin Circular
Hiking Trail
Hard
7.92 mi
2,093 ft
A day out on mainly easy-to-follow paths that takes in the highest (and most popular) summits in south Wales.
A circular route taking in a couple of summits, this route is often used for students, many of whom are experiencing this environment for the first time. It's not too strenuous but commitment is required. There's an option to miss out Cribin if necessary. By starting at the Storey Arms you can have a slightly longer day.
Start at the top of the ridge after a slog up, usually on wet ground. This is generally a windy place to rest. From here continue along the edge line, rising steadily throughout. Pass the path junction after the ridge walk, just before the short climb up to Corn Du, and onto the summit of Pen y Fan. Follow the path to the junction (there is an option to miss out Cribin and contour round the bottom, which might be handy for less fit members of the group). On from there is a this a sheltered spot for a short break before the trudge along the path back. There are some nice views back to be had.
