Raystown Lake 13-Miler

Trail Running Route

Details

Enjoy views and groomed singletrack on this 13-mile tour of the Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake.

One of the premier mountain biking destinations in Pennsylvania, Raystown Lake is home to nearly 40-miles of spectacular singletrack that make for a great trail run. Though cyclists from around the country flock to the Allegrippis Trails, all 24 trails were built with hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, and even cross-country skiing in mind - so lace up your shoes, fill your hydration vest, and head out for your new favorite trail run in central Pennsylvania.

Maintained mostly by volunteers, the Allegrippis Trails form a series of *stacked loops*, allowing you to shorten or lengthen your run as needed. The trails are well-signed, and [this source]( notes how one "could come back time after time [and] have the opportunity to use a new route each time."

Mapped clockwise, this run begins with a nice warm-up on Sleek Dog Trail around a quiet point on the lake, then crosses the road to the Fawn, Allie, and Grippis trails. There are no major climbs along this section, just fast, open singletrack composed of dirt and well-placed rock. Contrasting many of the backcountry trails in central PA, the rocks are more forgiving and less likely to lead to an ankle roll. After soaking in the lakeside views at the end of Ridge Trail, you'll continue onto Ray's Revenge and begin a mostly-downhill journey into a quiet cove. The Osprey and Eagle trails round things up and drop you back at the campground.

There are countless places to begin this loop, with options along Seven Points Road as well as the Susquehannock Campground, seen here. The trails are open year-round, though they occasionally close for safety or weather-related reasons. Restrooms and potable water are available within the campground.
