The big show!

Corbet's is the legendary run atop the resort in full view of aerial tram. It's the last run you can see before stepping off the Rendezvous Tram, making it the first thing on everyone's mind. From the top of the tram, descend the skier’s lefthand side along the rope line. About one hundred feet or so past the point where the pitch gently rolls over, Corbet’s Couloir awaits. Every run looks easy until you get on top of it, and that's what Corbet's is all about. After scouring the youtube videos, a bird's eye view from the tram, the smelly dude crammed next to you proclaiming it will be his fourth lap through the "cooler", your amp level is on high, but as you shimmy your way down to the entrance everything changes. The entrance is steep and usually chunked out from edge sets created by nervous sideslipping. You could jump it... but it's way further than you expected, plus you might pinball between sharp cliff walls. Usually at this point, the average skier or boarder has psyched themselves out.   Corbet's is a mind game. You only need to make two real turns, and then you're skiing through steep delicious pow (or at least firm but smooth chalk). If you wait too long up top, you're more likely to crash. The key is to quickly assess your entrance based on the way the cornice has set up (it will be different year to year and even day to day), and then go for it. Hesitation is your biggest enemy. You must either commit or go around, but deliberation will likely lead to your demise. For those visual learners out there, watch someone do it well, and then copy their technique.  If the snow is fast, be ready to make some speed check turns as soon as you navigate the entrance. If the snow is soft, let 'r fly. You might as well take that speed all the way to the Tensleep Roller and watch your friends from there! One last thing, you should definitely lap around get a waffle at Corbet’s Cabin after taking the plunge. Whether you ski it like a champion or explode into a high speed yard sale, you're sure to remember the run forever. Re-living the experience is of a higher quality with tasty waffles at 10,000 feet.  Written by FATMAP Official
