This one has a bit of everything so you'll want to be on your gravel bike. Head up and in to the Black Range via Whanregarwen Road, hit the dirt on Crystal Creek and head upwards. Most of the climbing is done by the time you reach the top of Black Range. Minimal traffic also means minimal water stops so come well prepared. Once on to Connellys Creek Road, the hills are behind you. Only a couple of hundred meters on the HWY before taking the backroad back into Alex.
