McGregor Lake Loop in the rain

Just like the last event, the pace was hard as soon as we hit the gravel 5km in. But unlike last event, I decided not to force the pace. Lucky for me, after the hard gravel climb 10 km in, it seemed like we were already down to only 10 or so people in the front group. At 20km near the top of a climb, I was able the ride away from the group. I opened up a nice gap, but as the roads became less technical, I was pulled back at around 32km in. The next unmaintained section I was able to stay at front and open up a small gap, but it wasn't enough, so i sat up. At the next unmaintained section, that included the water crossing, I again lead in to it and open up a bigger gap. Looking back I could see Mic Jo 🇨🇦 [RPV]​ and mark andrews had split off from the group, but the gap was very narrow. So, i decided to sit up wait for them then torch the pace, until a definative split had occurred. Not surprising to me at this point in the event, this worked. By the time I decided to ease up, every one else was gone. From there we all rode very strongly together, sharing the work until the last few km. Having pre-rode the end, I went in to it knowing exactly what to expect. I had said to myself to go full out as soon as I could see the corner going up the hill to the finish. But, because I was on Mic Jo 🇨🇦 [RPV]​ wheel, I held myself back. As soon as he started to go I went full out, and came around him. I was able to keep the power up and prevent mark andrews​ from coming around me. It is always nice to win an event.  I ended up 2nd in the Gravel Cup series, with Mark Andrews winning it and Mic Jo 🇨🇦 [RPV]​ ending up third. Once home, I enjoyed a few beer...well by the time the night is done, probably a few too many.
