Annual Katahdin hike. Started outside the park: Blueberry Ledges to Hunt Trail to Summit, down Abol Trail and tote road to the little trail that cuts over from Abol Pond to the AT. I had the bright idea of trying to follow a stream from the tote road back to Blueberry Ledge trail so I could partake of naked swimming and naked blueberry picking. As I decided whether bushwhacking in this area would really be a good idea, I figured the best case scenario is that the stream would flow though a dry upland forest and take a fairly direct route to my destination. Worst case scenario is that it took a more meandering route and flowed into a swamp. Well, the worst case scenario won out and I decided not to push onward through the swamps and turned back around. Soon after I got back to the tote road a park ranger asked if I needed a ride and I figured why not…so 2 miles of this was hitchhiking on the tote road. Overall it was a splendid hike. I shuffled some of the tablelands and Abol descent but otherwise just walked.
