Started quite far back so a slow start with weaving. Caught Mat Comer just after running through st Mary's football stadium and ran with him for half a mile or so which was lovely.

Overall a controlled and comfortable first half. I caught Dave Williams at 22km and we run together to the top of the toll bridge. I then tried to pick up the pace which worked for a couple of miles but then the pace was what it was. So much wind, and it kept getting hotter.

I was still catching and passing people all the way to the end and although there were two who passed me on the common. By that point I just wanted to finish. I was working fairly hard but I did not need to beat them. On chip time  did though :-)

5 gels on the course, 1 just before the start. Fought with the water bags for the 1st half, then at the Woolston water station the second time I heard a lady say the trick is to press down on the top which opens the "valve".  From that point on the bags were preferable to bottles. I really need to remember this for the future.

109th over the line, but 3:43 before I crossed the start line. Looks like #92 chip position. 833 finishers
