That’s a FKT!
Parked at Ashby Gap but started the run at Rt-50. Was met with a large number of fallen trees and people right away and was looking at my pace in the first half mile and I panicked. I proceeded to book it until the 3.5 mile mark way too fast. I instantly felt bad up the first climb (always always always remember to clean your water bottles😬). At this point I realized I wasn’t going to beat any records with my uphill ability, so I turned into a human bowling ball: I basically walked up every hill and just let loose on the downhills and flats. I wanted to be sub-10 pace at the 10 mile mark and I was at 10:00 so I decided to keep pushing. Mile 12 was relatively flat (with lots of rocks albeit) and that really helped me keep my pace fast. Reached Bears den with about 5 minutes to get off the top and made a mad dash through all the families hiking the quarter mile. Came sprinting out of a dense forest onto a completely open parking lot and went straight into star position. Really hard effort thst took a lot of mental fortitude once I realized my climbing was going to be a huge liability back at mile 3.5. 

This time is very beatable in my opinion. If you were to have any consistent effort on the uphills you will have a big advantage over this effort, but good luck taking the down hills from me ;)
