Morning Swim

Did not sleep last night. The bugs were too nasty and it was too hot. Tossed and turned 1-4:30 am. 

The shin/ankle was still sore this morning, but there was nothing to be done but to get it finished. It didn't occur to me that this would be the gnarliest, rockiest, loosest, most brutal day because of the Rolling Creek, Colorado, and Payne Creek Trails. 

I actually began to weep when I passed the Wilderness sign, exiting for the last time, on Payne Creek. That was a surprise. Saw a moose on this section, which wasn't a hallucination, but I did begin to see things. Logs turning into badgers, stumps turning into moose, things moving and taking ephemeral form in the rows of passing trees. 

Unsure what big picture lessons I learned from this trip, but I did take home a few logistical lessons. 
1) Odor proof bags are not odor proof. 
2) Beet chips are excellent fuel, but if you eat them on day 1, for the rest of the trip you will be unable to tell if that's beet pigment or a medical emergency. If you know what I mean. 
3) Don't leave the bug dope in the car. 
4) Bring more salt. "But Wyatt, 'more' is relative, more than what?" Just More. 
5) Mutants are not a long distance shoe. I weirdly have two pairs and no job so I didn’t want to buy a cushy pair. Mistake. 

I guess most importantly is that I had a phenomenal experience Out There. This trip kicked my teeth in, but I dug deeper than I ever have. I endured bugs, sun, pain, sleep deprivation, and time like I didn't think I was capable of. I love the LCW and this was a really special one for me.
