What happens when you combine a road runner who dabbles in trails, with a trail runner who dabbles in roads? A collaboration on a hybrid route! A choose your own adventure FKT? Perfect!
This was a grueling painful finish for me with Wouter setting the pace, and me suffering through it...but it made me finish a lot faster then I would have alone! Mostly woods roads after mile 15 that really wore me down. Out of my comfort zone for sure and each little stretch of single-track was blessed relief! I have a lot of respect for runners who can crush ultras on road/track. It's gets really uncomfortable for me after about 30 miles of it.
Wouter created an excellent route for this and big thanks to Linda for support. Also had Liam with us for the front 10 and Jake Barnett coming through in the clutch on the back 15.
Besides the suffering at the end to get the sub-9, it was an awesome enjoyable day traveling through some beautiful forest with awesome people!
