ROUVY - Race: Piatra Craiului National Park #1 | Romania [Fake commute: Attempt at bullying the legs only partially successful... 👎]

Done! Felt really good during the first 80% or so, and then... Can't remember much, apart from the fact that some amazing strava mates kept me going; see below.

-- my wife Shanthi for her amazing mushroom risotto!

-- Everybody who started the "race" and set us off. And extra special thanks to those who came back for a second helping later on; either after the pub (? Brian) or after breakfast (? Nick). Loved that Nick and I went up ("raced" is not the word that would describe my riding at that point) the same climb at the very end; not sure who "won" :) ).

-- Bernd (ridewithoutstomach -- there's a reason for that screen-name, and how he manages pull off such feats is totally beyond me!!!) for creating the route. Genuinely gutted that you had to drop out, but, as I said before: Thanks for not dying (on this route, and in general!).

-- Everybody who stopped by on zoom throughout the day (and apologies I couldn't talk; had three ipads on zoom and got enormous feedback when I switched on the mic). Using the chat was annoying and I hereby forgive myself for sub-standard spelling/grammar.
                                                            
-- Super-duper special thanks to Frank Manning , Peter Reid , Jan Vlieghe and (after he woke up in the middle of the night) Nigel Hardy for staying up until the end and providing much needed banter and trash talk to keep me going. These were VERY dark hours and I honestly don't know if I would have made it without you.

-- Last but not least, while I've always been clear that I'd do this primarily because it's mad, I really appreciate the massive contribution you've all made to MSF's Yemen campaign (and if you haven't yet, the link is here:  ). However, in the interest of honesty I have admit that the secret ploy to use this as a prod to keep myself going didn't work at all. When the going got tough, I did remind myself that I can't let you people down, but the brain fired back with "So bloody what". What really kept me going (apart from the above mentioned banter!), was that I knew I'd want to finish this ride one day and I just couldn't imagine re-doing all those miles that I'd already covered. Ever.
