Warmup: 45 min of easy spinning. Stopped home to get more fluids. Biked to Stage 1a, did that at medium effort, dropped off puncture kit and water bottle at stop sign past where stage 1a ends.

Stage 1a: Executed about as perfectly as I could've hoped. Biked at what felt like just below threshold going into the first climb (seriously need to do a FTP test now that I have a power meter), biked a bit over threshold up the first climb, tried to recover on the flat dam stretch, went hard up the steep part of maniac hill and then tried to hold on. My only complaint is that I didn't push myself hard enough for the last 0.3 mi or so. I was feeling kind of lethargic from sleeping in a bit too late and didn't have it in me to truly give 100%, but I came close to 100%. High 90s for sure.

Stage 1b: The dam road was really busy, and I should've thought about this in advance. Had to turn around about 15 sec into first attempt bc of cars backing up at the turn to the first parking lot. Started again. I think my power was a bit low early on, but I had a tailwind and was mostly going downhill. Felt like I did a good job on the climb before the steep downhill section of the dam. And then encountered some less-than-ideal circumstances. A car pulled out in front of me while I was rapidly accelerating at ~ 45mph and I had to swerve and slam the brakes (rear tire actually slid out) and luckily instincts/experience kept me upright, but I lost a lot of momentum. 10 sec later, another car stopped suddenly to turn without signalling about 100m in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes again for a second time, losing more momentum. First incident was an egregious display of driving that simply shouldn't have occurred and second incident was just bad luck for me. However, I should've known better than to TT when the road was so busy so statistically the blame is on me. I honestly don't know how I performed on the rest of the stage bc I was so shook up/pissed that I stopped paying attention to numbers.

Lessons learned about first TT: avoid busy roads when TT'ing. Don't oversleep bc I mentally wasn't up for a 100% effort.
