This was much better than the Asheville ride I did last year: the hills were a little more evenly spread, I'm a bit stronger now, I knew what to expect, and most importantly I didn't go crazy in the early stages.

I'm definitely not a climber, but I finished pretty far up the field. I ignored the timed sections (after what happened last year), and just went for a decent overall pace.

The weather was great throughout, and the roads were very nice, with only a couple of brief sections that didn't feel good to be on.

After riding these two fondos over the last year, I've concluded that I definitely don't want to do either Mitchell or the Six Gaps any time soon. This was about as tough as I want to contend with.
