HOLY HELL.. what can I even say. I hallucinated.. I cried.. I bled and at the end i beat the course record by 3.5 hours. Ive never trained for anything like this in my life, but the last 6 months really paid off. Thanks to all the training partners that made this happen.

I hit my fastest times on the bike ever with my first sub 4:45 hour century, sub 10 hour double century and 400 miles under 22 hours. 

Calories- I didn't track via Wahoo because I had the TICKR fail too many times so i tracked via WHOOP and i counted 35K calories.. yes that is right. 35K

I didn't sleep, I didn't stop for more than a few 10-20 minute break. 52.5 hours of total riding. 

A few training notes for those wondering:

TRAINING PHYSICAL - I focused on the BIG RIDES.. my base mileage was about 50mile per day.. mostly indoor toward the end as outdoor became too dangerous riding every morning. I focused on one 200-300+ mile ride every week ( outdoors) in the 3 months leading up. I started 6 months prior and built up to a really strong and steady 2 months prior training regiment. My biggest week was a 379 mile ranndonneur and a week of 3 x 200+ mile rides every other day. 

MENTAL - this is where it gets weird.. I rode under every condition I could find.. stressed, full, GI distress, angry, tired, rain, etc etc etc.. Most of my rides were through the night so i could explore what that felt like. I also tried to really stay away from group rides so i couldn't feel the pull and camaraderie.. you have to get into your own head. I really needed to stress the body so that nothing felt out of reach in Iceland.. when it rained for 9 hours.. i just looked internally. I sought out the WORST, COLDEST - California weather i had access too and trained in that. 

NUTRITION - thanks to some testing I found out I perform best at around 180 watts while digesting 60 G carbs per hour.. some glycolitic testing goes a long way. I mainly used HAMMER, MAURTEN GELS, CLIF SHOT BLOCKS.. and my solid's were STROOPWAFELS From a few different folks. Pastries, french fries, a sandwhich and bananas.. that was pretty much it.. there may have been some random nuts and other stuff in there. But this was all food I ate in the months leading up to it and i just kept that going. STROOPWAFFELS are nice because they have some real food texture which helped and I made myself a custom bento feed box where all my food was unwrapped and cut up so i never had to unwrap anything while on the bike.. that was HUGE for saving time. 

I also used a speedfill with hydration hose.. i rolled out heavy with 40ounces of water because any stopping or hand offs will sacrifice time. It paid off huge. 

I implemented ALPINE START coffee mix and TAILWIND choclate recovery about 12 hours in when the body is ready to start rebuilding.. that was HUGE>. makes a bigg difference to start getting some protein. 

PRE RIDE - I suck at stopping but i relied on WHOOP to help me track my sleeping.. i took sleeping pills a few nights and ate a ton the days before.. not too many carbs.. but just enough so i was a little more full than usual. I did one hard 27 mile ride around 220 watts 36 hours prior which helps drain any carbs from the system allowing for fresh stuff to come in. I did yoga 2-4 times in the days leading up to the race as well.. lots of stretching. 

SKIN CARE - i used chamois butter , a ton of AMP performance on the legs and Assos bib for the ride. I swapped halfway through to a clean setup and cleaned but bottom and put some colloidal silver down there.. then reapplied. Toward the end i was dealing with some real deal chaffing and used LANTISEPTIC to keep things moving freely.. wow that stuff is MAGIC. 

BIKE was specialized 2019 Roubaix, ENVE wheels/ bars , infinity seat, schwalbe ONE tires. SRAM etap.
