Raced on base fitness and Christmas weight, so quite happy with the time. Course was a little long because the tide came in for the second half.
Luke started fast partly because he thought I was ahead - I saw him 500m or so from the turn around point. I later caught him with 4 miles to go.
Flat but not fast. Stony beaches, traffic (runners),  muddy puddles, railing chicanes at 24 miles.
It had rained a lot overnight but mercifully it stopped raining before we started and by the end there was even a hint of sunshine.
Tasty pint of pale ale at the finish. Easy to drink and much appreciated.
My hips started feeling sore at about 20 miles. The last 4 miles I was just focussing on cadence and light feet to keep the wheels turning.
I hadn't twigged that the finish is at the Pyramid rather than at the pier where the start was. So the bonus 500 metres were mentally tough, esp. because I didn't know how much further it would be and my watch was already past marathon distance.
