GrNY: Jersey Dirt from Natirar Park

Lovely day in the Chatham area with Kathy on our 15th wedding anniversary!  What do you get when you take the roads of the Farmer's Daughter route, replace the crowds with peaceful solitude, swap the singletrack for country roads, and trade the aid stations for charming country stores, ice cream stands and breweries?  I'd argue that you get something that's even better than the original event.  And you can still stop by the brewery to get yourself a cold Farmer's Daughter Rye IPA and hot BBQ food after the ride.

About the route itself:  Miles and miles of quiet dirt roads through forests and farms.  It's a beautiful route from end to end.  Expect rolling hills throughout.  The elevation adds up over time and is higher than what RWGPS estimates.  There are a few really steep hills, but they aren't crazy long.  The last ~13 miles of the ride is largely downhill and rolling terrain, so easier than the earlier parts of the route, which makes it nicely balanced.  After the ride, the Chatham Brewery was a great place to go for flights of beer and BBQ food.  We really enjoyed the beer and the BBQ.  It was all very well done and there is some shaded, outdoor seating (in addition to indoors) if you get there early enough to grab one of those tables.

Other notes:  We had absolutely perfect weather!  A summer day with high temperatures in the mid-70s meant wonderfully comfortable conditions for the climbs and the rolling, swooping descents.  We saw hawks, huge herons, and more sheep, cows, and horses than cars on the dirt roads.  Really, except for the occasional foray onto main roads to connect things together, we hardly saw any cars at all on most of the route.
