24 hours in the Old Pueblo is an ultra MTB race where you attempt to log the most LAPS. A lap is about 16 miles, and you HAVE to finish after 24 hours has lapsed. So if you can get to the start/finish before noon on Sunday, you can ride another lap. 

This race has a Le Mans START, you run 400m to your bike and it was chaos! I went out with a super easy pace and stuck to the plan to stay under 160bmp in the first few hours. I worked my way from around 50th up 5th by the end of the day. 

I also was able to get in at 11:30am so I could do another lap, locking in my 5th since 6th didn’t make the cut and couldn’t go out for another. The last lap, at hour 25… BRUTAL. 

This event is my all time favorite vibe I’ve seen at a race. From the camping in the desert to the crowds to the mix of people and goals was wild. Most people do team/relay style. You can have teams upto 10 riders, but I raced the solo category and now my balls are dust. 

The absolute HARDEST thing about this was how you had to ride technical MTB single track at high speeds while completely sleep deprived. Crashing was a major concern, but I was able to keep the flow rolling and finished pretty strong.
