Finishing the #festive500, this was so hard with the wind

Shakedown 2 (groceries) finishing Rapha Festive 500 with 270 mile Cheaha ride tonight/tomorrow

So, on this ride, I got passed by a duck while I was trying to ride to an island ... and no, the duck wasn't flying, the duck passed me and dropped me while casually swimming. I was ratcheting my bike to try to keep from completely submerging my feet. I had committed to the crossing so I couldn't stop to turn around until I made it to the island. At that point, I realized that the other side was far deeper, and so I had to re-ratchet back through the "Little River" where the duck had swam by.  And all of this is hours after a failed attempt to leave at 4am ended up being a 32 mile ride in the pouring rain that ended back at the hotel when about 20 miles in I realized that I had to find some place open I could go inside and get out of the pouring rain and warm up. The closest place was a Circle K halfway back to where I had started. So I immediately decided "forget that" - I'm going back for my free breakfast and free coffee back at the hotel from the room I had just left. It was a bit short of Virginia and nowhere near the route I had planned (through the mountains), but I found my daughter outside Knoxville and we just made it back home.
